CODE OF CONDUCT
The Wilberforce Code of Conduct has been jointly developed and reviewed by Administration, staff, parents, students and our Safe Schools Committee. The Administration, staff, parents, and students of Wilberforce Public School wish to ensure a positive school climate that fosters learning, cooperative attitudes, and allows our students to feel safe at school. We expect that this will be carried out in an atmosphere that is considerate and respectful of others.
Our school community will;
- establish a safe and caring place for teaching and learning;
- develop in students a sense of responsibility for their learning and their actions;
- encourage excellence through hard work and perseverance
- set realistic expectations for student behaviour.
STUDENT RIGHTS
When students are actively engaged, they will be aware of their rights, but most importantly, they will accept responsibility for protecting their rights and the rights of others.
As a student at Wilberforce Public School, I have the right:
- to be respected as an individual by all members of the Wilberforce School Community.
- to freely express myself without being teased by others.
- to feel safe and to be safe at school.
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
The following expectations and responsibilities will help our students develop the skills, attitudes, knowledge, and character that will allow them to contribute positively as members of our community.
I agree to:
- read and follow the Wilberforce Code of Conduct / Dress Code.
- do my best in everything that I do.
- be honest and do what I say I am going to do.
- treat others the way that I want to be treated.
- be respectful & helpful to all staff members, students & visitors.
- treat all property with respect (i.e., home, school and community) and to do my part to keep the school property clean inside and out.
- respect the need of others to work in an environment that is conducive to learning and teaching, including by ensuring that cell phones and other personal mobile devices are used only during instructional time (as directed by an educator), for health and medical purposes and/or to support special education needs.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
I agree to:
- follow the Wilberforce Code of Conduct and Dress Code.
- take responsibility for my education by finishing all classroom work assignments and asking for help when needed.
- act responsibly on school property, on the school bus and at school events.
- walk through the hallways in a quiet and respectful manner so that the learning environment will not be disrupted.
- use school computers for school related projects and sign the Computer Use Agreement form.
- be at school on time, with the proper materials, and be ready to learn.
- leave all items at home that may cause harm to others or myself, such as weapons, threatening objects, alcohol or illegal substances.
- lead by example so that others will be encouraged to be respectful to others.
- use language that will always be respectful of others.
- use all resources available to resolve conflict in a peaceful manner, seeking assistance when necessary.
- accept responsibility for my actions.
- respect that everyone is different and that they have their own ideas and opinions.
- treat everyone with dignity and respect.
